When I think of prominent environmental artists, I immediately think of Chris Jordan and his short movie entitled, ” Midway: Message from the Gyre”. In the video, he documents the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and its impacts on Albatross chicks on Midway Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. His images are shocking and makes the viewer want to know more about these senseless deaths and cause people to think about the images for a long time afterwards.
Another one of his pieces, “Picturing Excess” doesn’t only deal with environmental issues but covers social and economic issues in world today. His work, which basically looks like big blocks of color–represent the numbers of people affected by certain issues. It gives the viewer a sense of how big some of these problems are in an interesting and eye-catching way.
