I was inspired the the Evolution of Man; the transformation of the ape to man. These foxes reside of the six of the largest Channel Islands off of the Southern California coast. This species actually has a larger cousin that lives on the mainland. Overtime, the Island Grey Fox has gradually gotten smaller to adapt to its environment. Because of limited supply of food, water, and territory, the species has resorted by natural selection to survive on these islands. They are the smallest fox species in the United States; about 5-6 in. tall from the shoulders, about 3-4 lbs. and about 19-20 in. long from head to tail.
